It’s time to talk about why mental health is important and to help stop the stigma people sometimes feel when they’re struggling. At CHAS Health, we believe mental health is just as important as physical health.

Why Mental Health Is Important

Mental health affects how we think, feel, and act. It helps us deal with stress, get along with others, and make good choices. But even though it’s important, people don’t always talk about it. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)

  • 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. experience mental illness each year
  • 1 in 20 adults has a serious mental illness each year
  • 1 in 6 kids and teens (ages 6–17) has a mental health issue each year
  • Half of all mental health problems start by age 14, and 75% by age 24
