2024 marks CHAS Health's 30th anniversary, evolving from a two-exam-room clinic in downtown Spokane to a major provider of primary care services for the region. Watch for celebrations throughout the year as we take time to reflect on our accomplishments since our founding in 1994.

From Humble Beginnings | The Early Years
September 8, 1994
Community Health Association of Spokane (CHAS) launches with a single grant.
1995 First Clinic Opens
In 1995, the Community Health Association of Spokane opened the doors to the Downtown Medical Clinic.
1996 Northeast Clinic Opens
The Northeast Clinic, which was located in the Northeast Community Center, opened in 1996 and initially served between 20-25 patients per day.
1999 Valley Clinic Opens
In 1999, the Valley Clinic opened, providing medical services to the Valley community.




2001-2005 | Maple Street, Denny Murphy & Deer Park
The Maple Street Clinic opened in 2001. In 2003, the Downtown Community Medical Dental Clinic relocated to 1001 W 2nd Ave and was renamed the Denny Murphy Clinic. The North County Clinic opened in November 2005.
2009 | Centralized Administration and Lewis & Clark Health Center
In 2009, CHAS Health leased space in the downtown Liberty Building to centralize administrative operations. In 2009, the Lewis & Clark Health Center opened in Lewiston, Idaho.
2010 | Lewis & Clark Dental and Spokane Urgent Care-North
In 2010, the Lewis & Clark Dental Clinic in Clarkston, WA, opened its doors as did Spokane Urgent Care - North.
2010 | Valley & Northeast Clinics Move
In 2010, the Valley Clinic relocated from 9227 E Main to 924 S Pines and the Northeast Clinic moved to 5921 N Market.







School Based Health Clinics (SBHC)
In 2012, CHAS Health pioneered the first school based health clinic in Airway Heights at Sunset Elementary School. Building on that experience, CHAS Health opened the doors of the first school-based health center (SBHC) in a Spokane high school in 2020--providing over 1,500 students, 80% low-income, with access to medical and behavioral health care on site. Shiloh Hills Elementary followed in 2023 and two additional SBHCs are planned to open later in 2024 at North Central High and Shadle High School.
Driving Growth Forward
2012 | Sunset Health Center
In 2012 CHAS Health started operating a school-based health clinic at Sunset Elementary School in Airway Heights.
2013 | Latah Community Health
Latah Community Health opened in 2013 as a stand-alone medical clinic.
2015 | Perry Street, Cheney & Spokane Urgent Care-Valley
2015 was a busy year with the Perry Street Clinic, Cheney Health Center, and Spokane Urgent Care-Valley locations opening their doors.
2016 | Latah Community Health Move
In 2016, Latah Community Health moved into a new space on the first floor of the Gritman Medical Center.
2018 | East Mission Dental
In 2018, after remodeling part of the Urgent Care-Valley location at 1502 N Vercler, East Mission Dental opened.
2019 | Southgate & Family Dental
Southgate opened its doors in 2019 along with Family Dental.












CHAS Health Mobile Clinics
In 2021, CHAS Health opened the CHAS Health Mobile Clinic as one more way CHAS Health can provide resources, support, and services to communities that may not have nearby access to healthcare. Each CHAS Health Mobile Clinic has two exam spaces, a blood draw area, and is wheelchair accessible, allowing CHAS Health to continue to assist the community through a variety of services.
2020 And Forward Growth
2020 | East Central Dental & Rogers SBHC
The East Central Dental clinic is established in 2020 along with Rogers High School school-based health center.
2020 | Administration Moves to Iron Bridge
In 2020, Administration moved from the Liberty Building to the newly remodeled Iron Bridge building.
2020 | CHAS Health Foundation Established
The mission of the CHAS Health Foundation is to create health equity by strategically investing in patients, partners, and communities.
2021 | Mobile Clinic Rolls Out
In 2021, CHAS Health opened the CHAS Health Mobile Clinic as one more way CHAS Health can provide resources, support, and services to rural and remote communities.
2022 | CHAS Behavioral Health Center-North
The CHAS Behavioral Health Center (CBHC), was our region’s first Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic.
2023 | Shiloh Hills Elementary SBHC & CHAS Behavioral Health Center-Lewiston
Shiloh Hills school based health clinic opened in 2023. CHAS Health opened the first Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic in the Lewis-Clark Valley.
2024 | Spokane Pediatrics & Parkside Clinic
In February 2024, Spokane Pediatrics fully integrated its practice into the CHAS Health system. Additionally, the Parkside clinic opened near the Spokane Community College campus.
2024 | Shadle Park & North Central High School SBHCs
Two new school based health centers were opened at Shadle Park High School and North Central High School in May 2024.
