Serving Spokane's Homeless Community

Our outreach team works to make sure people who are without homes find the best resources available in the Spokane area.  We can also help “newly homeless” clients find appropriate resources.  Our outreach team partners with many groups who are part of the Spokane Homeless Coalition and works in tandem with various agencies in Spokane County.  We help people of all ages and our team members are mobile so they can make site visits with clients.

Street Medicine

Street medicine providers meet our most vulnerable population where they are at. Our goal is to offer whatever we can at the point of contact to help the patient with their immediate needs. We do a lot of wound evaluation and care, management of injuries, medication access, and referrals back to CHAS Health clinics.

Thomas “TJ” Byrne, PA-C, and Dr. Luis Manriquez began seeing patients in August 2021 and offer quality care in less-than-optimal circumstances. Together they provide street medicine coverage Tuesday through Friday with the Denny Murphy clinic serving as their home clinic.

Because some patients without shelter are battling behavioral health, substance abuse, and chronic health issues, it can be challenging to maintain traditional healthcare relationships. Our street medicine provider team can get patients stabilized with the help of CHAS Health outreach workers and community partners. The end goal is to greatly improve the quality of life for individuals leading to further life enhancements such as permanent housing and employment.

Homeless Memorial

Every Year on the Winter Solstice, CHAS Health marks the first day of winter and the longest night of the year remembering the lives of those who have passed while experiencing homelessness. The event serves as an opportunity to raise awareness for those experiencing housing insecurity and a call to action to end homelessness.
