In the summer of 2017, Zach and Naomi Proett welcomed twin boys, Benjamin and Andrew, into the world. Their joy was profound—but so was their heartbreak. Just six weeks after birth, Andrew passed away in the NICU due to health complications both boys endured.
During those six precious weeks, the Proetts were able to spend nearly every day at the hospital, holding their sons, watching their progress, and cherishing every moment. They had the support and flexibility to be present, but they quickly noticed that not every family had that same opportunity. Many parents were forced to choose between being at their child’s bedside and fulfilling work or life obligations.
That experience planted a seed.
Since then, the Proetts have entrusted CHAS Health with their children’s care, drawn to the organization’s mission of providing high-quality, accessible healthcare for all. But their journey didn’t stop at gratitude—it grew into action.
After countless hours in pediatric waiting rooms, they saw another need: spaces that support children emotionally and developmentally while they wait. Doctor visits can be stressful, especially for young patients and their siblings. That’s why the Proetts partnered with the CHAS Health Foundation to create reading corners in pediatric-serving clinics. These welcoming spaces invite children to engage, learn, and feel at ease.
And now, their commitment has deepened with the creation of the Andrew Proett Memorial Endowment.
This endowment is a powerful tribute to Andrew’s life and legacy. In collaboration with CHAS Health’s pediatric team, the endowment provides families with the resources they need at home—tools to reduce stress, support healing, and help children thrive. It’s a way to turn loss into lasting impact, ensuring that other families receive the care and compassion they deserve.
