At CHAS Health’s School-Based Health Centers (SBHCs), care goes beyond checkups and prescriptions to meet students where they are with compassion and dignity. For many young people, that means access to basic necessities like hygiene products, warm clothing, and nutritious snacks.
That’s the mission behind Chazzy’s Care Closets, a CHAS Health Foundation initiative that provides essential items to students facing financial barriers. Whether it’s soap, deodorant, a winter coat, or just a granola bar, these closets are stocked to support students’ health, confidence, and ability to focus in school.
This year, two respected community foundations—Innovia Foundation and Avista Foundation—independently chose to support this initiative, recognizing its impact and potential.
The Innovia Foundation awarded a $13,500 Community Grant to fund Chazzy’s Care Closets across all CHAS Health SBHCs for the 2025–2026 school year, ensuring sustained access to basic needs for students throughout the region.
The Avista Foundation, through a $2,500 Health and Human Services grant, also invested in expanding Chazzy’s Care Closets, helping to stock supplies and reach more students in need.
“These closets don’t just meet immediate needs, they open the door to deeper care,” said CHAS Health School-Based Program Manager Daniel Trautvetter. “Any student who visits an SBHC, whether they’re a CHAS Health patient or not, can access the closet. It’s about being present for them, building trust, and meeting our students with what they need, when they need it.”
Supporting the Care Closet initiative helps ensure that students not only receive basic supplies, but also gain access to affordable, high-quality healthcare when needed. It’s a partnership rooted in community care and a shared commitment to youth wellness.
“We’re extremely grateful for both the Innovia Foundation and the Avista Foundation,” said Kasey Webster, director of the CHAS Health Foundation. “Their support reflects a shared commitment to youth wellness and community care, and it’s making a real difference in the lives of students across our region.”
