The first National Youth Apprenticeship Week is being celebrated from May 5-11, 2024.

At CHAS Health, we have three apprenticeships programs: Medical Assistant Apprenticeship, Dental Assistant Apprenticeship, and Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship. These apprenticeship programs offer on-the-job training and full-time employment at CHAS Health including benefits while apprentices learn the skills they need to earn their nationally recognized certification to start their career in healthcare.

“I am a hands-on learner, it’s hard for me to understand concepts when I am just told about something. So being able to learn with things I see and deal with every day is perfect. I wanted to work and learn where I can look back, even if it’s to last week, and see what I have learned and what I can still improve on,” said Emily Gustafson, a CHAS Health Pharmacy Technician Apprentice.

Throughout these one-year programs, students work hands-on with CHAS Health clinical teams and a coach to practice clinical skills, as well as participate in learning labs and classroom study.

“I loved that CHAS Health offered on-the-job training while learning the content and requirements of what it takes to become a pharmacy technician.” said Tomie Leeds, CHAS Health Pharmacy Technician Apprentice.

Later this year, CHAS Health will open the CHAS Health Learning Institute. The Institute will contain clinical training space including medical exam rooms and dental operatories, a full sterilization facility, and a laboratory. This will allow for initial apprentice training to move from CHAS Health clinic spaces, improving access for patients at clinic locations.

With a physical space large enough to support 200 or more individuals in their learning, both together and in breakout skill labs and classrooms, the CHAS Health Learning Institute also creates opportunities for new apprenticeships and partnerships with other accredited training programs in the area.
